John Stammers - John Stammers (2011)

Purple Wine - Purple Wine (1971)

Τα τρια αυτά κομμάτια είναι τα «It's My Mind», «I'm Lonely» και «Friends».

Purple Wine - Make You (1971)

Purple Wine

Personnel
Brian Cox - Drums
Dave Moore – Guitar/ Vocals
Bob Tansley – Organ/ Vocals

One of the absolute rarest UK private pressings, made in 1971 for the band’s own use, with only three or maybe four copies having surfaced since then.  Superb teen prog pop/beat/psych album with a lovely dreamy Farfisa organ-based sound throughout on all-original material.  Sounding three or four years earlier than the actual recording date, this was compared in the guide book Galactic Ramble to “the poppier tracks on the first Complex album”, which is a pretty accurate description for tracks like ‘Say It Now’ and the gorgeous ‘Tomorrow Morning’.  The six-minute ‘Who’s To Blame’ (which features a great and fairly lengthy guitar solo) and ‘Dreaming’ have the same wide-eyed vocal and jamming prog-pop feel as the first Clouds album, ‘Make You’ and ‘I’ve Got To Move On’ are in the same vein as the psych-pop ballads on the Magic Mixture LP, while ‘Brick’ is a fantastic chunk of guitar/organ-led teen garage psych pop that concludes with an extended Farfisa solo.

A Fleeting Glance - A Fleeting Glance (1970)

A Fleeting Glance

CHRIS LOWNDS - FOLK SINGER
AQUILA TRAD BAND
PUCKLES BLEND
FOLK GROUP – PENNY, PHIL, PAUL
DAVE AND JOHN

One of the most astonishing British private pressing rarities, only two copies have surfaced of this 1970 concept album. Telling the story of a woman's life from her own conception to giving birth, the LP was put together by a variety of musicians at a social club, and allegedly includes an uncredited appearance by Billy Fury. Linked by narration and sound effects, the music runs the gamut from heavy space-rock jamming (including a snatch of 'Interstellar Overdrive') to folk rock (an acoustic cover of 'Light My Fire' & a stunning version of 'Watch The Stars') avante-garde choirs, krautrock-styled interludes and even trad jazz. The result is among the trippiest albums I have ever heard, comparable only to Jumble Lane in terms of eccentricity, although the music is infinitely better, with a strong Pink Floyd spacy edge. Indeed, had Syd Barrett remained with the Floyd, one could well imagine 'Dark Side of The Moon' might have sounded thus."

Kusudo & Worth - Of Sun And Rain (1969)

San Jacinto College στο Riverside County της Καλιφόρνια.

Το βίντεο που βάζω είναι από αυτή τη βραδιά όπου παίζουν το Once I Was του αξέχαστου Tim Buckley.

Bill Oliver Swofford

The Good Earth Trio - Young Birds Fly

The Good Earth formed in New York City, starting out on the city's coffeehouse circuit as a folk trio before being discovered and promoted by Crewe on his DynoVoice label. Originally showcasing the talents of Jim Dawson, Bill Hinkle, and Bill Oliver Swofford, by the time the group released their debut LP, Dawson had bailed (artistic differences), replaced by Dan Shepherd. Produced by Crewe (Artie Schroek handling four songs), no matter how you looked at it, 1968's "How Deep Is the Ocean" was pretty lame. In spite of the vaguely psych-ish cover, Crewe's intention seems to have been to market them as a clean-cut, sensitive act that could appeal to folks who found rock and roll dirty and offensive. Needless to say, that marketing strategy didn't do these guys any favors. While all three members had decent enough voices, saddled with simply atrocious material (including three originals), there simply wasn't much they guys could do to salvage this one. With the exception of the bouncy 'Goodbye Girl' (not the David Gates tune) and the Righteous Brothers-styled 'River Is Wide', musically this was uniformly inept, harmony rich pop that was far too often cloying, rather than entertaining. Hard to believe it, but tracks like 'Young Birds Fly' and 'Now That You're Leaving' somehow managed to make The Association and other soft-pop outfits sound like heavy metal FM bands.

The Good Earth Trio - How Deep Is The Ocean?

How much do I love you?
I'll tell you no lie
How deep is the ocean?
How high is the sky?

How many times a day do I think of you?
How many roses are sprinkled with dew?

How far would I travel
To be where you are?
How far is the journey
From here to a star?

And if I ever lost you, how much would I cry?
How deep is the ocean?
How high is the sky?

How far would I travel
To be where you are?
How far is the journey
From here to a star?

And if I ever lost you, how much would I cry?
How deep is the ocean?
How high is the sky?
How high is the sky?

Brotherhood - Brotherhood Brotherhood (1969)

Προσωπικά δεν έχω ακούσει πιο ροκ διασκευή στο California Dreamin’ ενώ η ιδέα τους στο When I Get Home είναι εξαιρετική.

Ατέλειωτες πληροφορίες για τους Brotherhood θα βρείτε εδώ http://blog.musoscribe.com/?p=760 σε 9 συνέχειες και μη εκπλαγείτε που η ιστορία ξεκινά από τους Paul Revere and the Raiders!!!

".....“Rose Garden” is another borrowed tune, albeit one with an unusual history. First cut in 1968 by songwriter Joe South, a version of the song would be a monster hit in 1970 for Lynn Anderson. But this ‘69 backing track was originally recorded by a friend of the band, organist Lee Michaels. The track was possibly intended for his Recital LP; Drake played on all of that album’s songs. A&M label head Herb Alpert had insisted Michaels record the song, “but Lee hated it,” says Phil. “He knew we were under pressure to get this record done, and we were running on empty, suffering from writers’ block.” So Lee slipped Brotherhood his track, probably without approval from his label: “No one questioned how the master tape got from Point A to Point B,” Phil chuckles. He remembers the lineup on the rocking recording – cut at A&M — as Lee Michaels on organ, ex-Turtle Johnny Barbata on drums, Chris Etheridge on bass, Drake on guitar, and Phil’s overdubbed lead vocal. Joe has memories of working on the song at RCA as well, but it may be those were rehearsal sessions for one of the group’s few live gigs...."

DRAKE LEVIN                               gtr                          A
MICHAEL SMITH                           drms                       A

ALBUMS:
1(A)   BROTHERHOOD     (RCA Victor LSP-4092)                                1968
2(Β)    BROTHERHOOD BROTHERHOOD  (RCA Victor LSP-4228)           1969
45:
1        Box Guitar/Jump Out The Window (RCA Victor 47-9621)             1968

Formed by Levin, Volk and Smith after their exit from Paul Revere and The Raiders, and cultivating a similar pop territory.

The first album contains strident pop with some heavier sounds than their predecessors but also adds some unwelcome brass and orchestration.

One immediate standout is Doin' The Right Thing (The Way), a dramatic, sitar-influenced power-popper straight out of the Paul Revere and The Raiders school. Otherwise it is fairly undistinguished pop and ballads.

They also recorded as Friendsound.

Zoe and The Storms - Akou Me  (1966) (Demis on Bass and Lucas Sideras on Drums, pre Aphrodite's Child)

Artemios “Demis” Ventouris Roussos was born June 15, 1946 and had international hit records as a solo performer in the 1970s after having been a member of Aphrodite’s Child, a progressive rock group that also included Vangelis. He has sold over 60 million albums worldwide.
Roussos was born and raised in Alexandria, Egypt, in a family where his father George (engineer Yorgos Roussos) was Greek and mother Nelly Mazloum was Egyptian of Italian origin. His parents lost their possessions during the Suez Crisis and consequently decided to move to Greece.
He was best known for his solo hits in the 1970s and 80s, including Forever and Ever, Goodbye and Quand je t'aime.
Roussos was renowned for his off-screen role in Mike Leigh's 1977 TV play Abigail's party, having provided the party's soundtrack.

Aphrodite's Child - End of the world (1968)

Ιntroduction
This is the story of three young friends, who travel from Greece to France in search of a better creative environment. Back in 1968 a military regime has taken over the government in Greece and just as many other Greek artists, Vangelis Papathanassiou, Demis Roussos and Lucas Sideras decide to leave their country. A fourth friend, Argyris Koulouris has to stay behind to fulfil his army duty. Although aiming to travel to England, Vangelis, Demis and Lukas first get in trouble as they are not allowed to enter the UK due to their work-permits, and then get stuck in Paris due to a transportation strike. By that time they decide to stay in Paris, and sign up with the Mercury record label as the band "Aphrodite's Child", with the help of Pierre Sberro.
Their first single "Rain and tears", released in May 1968, immediately strikes gold and becomes a huge hit worldwide. The song plays in France during the student riots, and is an instant success in France and other countries in Europe. Due to the success of the single it is time to record a full album "End of the world". The title song of the album, released in October 1968,  becomes the second single of Aphrodite's Child. A third single "Valley of sadness" is also shortly issued in France, but later quickly withdrawn.

Aphrodite's Child - It's Five O Clock (1969)

Introduction
The success of the first album "End of the world" calls for the release of the next, so Vangelis, Demis and Lucas go back into the studio. What did not seem possible a year before, now finally is and the three Greeks travel to London and record "It's five o'clock" in the Trident Studios.
The first single from this album "Let me love, let me live", released in October 1969 makes it to a number one position in the French charts, but it is the B-side "Marie Jolie" that is most popular in the rest of Europe. The title track "It's five o'clock" quickly follows the same path, released in December 1969 it does well in the charts of many European countries.
Shortly after the release of the album the band starts touring in Spain and Italy, but without Vangelis though who prefers to stay in the studio. To replace Vangelis on keyboards fellow Greek Harris Chalkitis joins the band on stage. In the meantime Vangelis works on his very first solo project, the score to the Henry Chapier film "Sex Power"....

Aphrodite's Child - 666 (1972)

Introduction
By the time Vangelis starts working on the third Aphrodite's Child album his friend Argyris Koulouris joins the band after fulfilling his army duty in Greece. At the end of 1970 a conceptual album, based on the a part of the New Testament, The Apocalypse of St. John is  conceived by Vangelis and Costas Ferris. The entire album takes over a year to complete, and when it is finally ready for release, the band has already split up, with all members working on solo albums...
Production problems for the album are numerous, as the band members were not on very good terms during the recording sessions. Then Mercury, the band's record label adds to the troubles by objecting to the specific content of the album, and although Vangelis refuses to remove offending tracks (such as 'oo' Infinity), the album is brought back to the released issue of 80 minutes.
One single makes it off the album, "Break/Babylon" is released in November 1972, but that can not turn the album into a commercial success at the time. Today however the experimental "666" has received widespread acknowledgement and is regarded as a classic work and milestone in progressive rock!
